What “free” actually means here

Plenty of seating tools call themselves free and then stop you at the point where the tool becomes useful. We would rather tell you exactly where our line is. The seating is free, up to five tables. The catering plan, the shot list, the Who’s Who face sheet and clean prints are what you pay for.

Five tables is roughly forty to fifty guests. If your wedding is smaller than that, you may never pay us anything. If it is larger — most are — lifting the limit is a one-time $14 for that wedding, and so is everything else on the paid list. Not a subscription, not per month, not per seat.

You do need an account

You sign in with Google. We would rather be straight about that than advertise “no signup” and spring it on you three screens in.

The account is what makes the rest work: it is how your chart saves as you go, how your Google Sheet stays connected, and how you get back to your wedding on a different device. There is no credit card at sign-up, and nothing expires.

You do not import anything

This is the part most people do not expect. There is no CSV step and no second copy of your guest list to keep in step by hand.

You point Seat the Day at the Google Sheet you are already keeping. The names appear, ready to seat. Change the sheet and the chart follows; move someone on the chart and the sheet updates. Your sheet stays the source of truth, and your mother can keep editing it in the tab she already has open.

What you can finish on the free tier

For a wedding of five tables or fewer, the free tier covers the seating from start to finish: connect your sheet, build the room, seat everyone, check the requests, print the chart for the entrance (with a light watermark), and post a QR code so guests can find themselves. The kitchen sheet for your caterer and the shot list for your photographer come with unlocking.

For a larger wedding, you can still do all of the seating for the first five tables before deciding whether we are worth $14 to you. Nothing you build is thrown away when you unlock — the tables you already made are simply no longer capped.

Common questions

Is there a time limit on the free tier?

No. There is no trial clock. Five tables are free for as long as your wedding exists.

Is my work saved?

Yes, continuously. There is no Save button anywhere in the chart, and closing the browser loses nothing.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. You only see a payment screen if you choose to unlock a wedding.

Can I get the chart out without paying?

Yes. Printing is free on every tier, and your browser can save any of those printed views as a PDF — the seating chart in three levels of detail, the caterer’s counts and the shot list included.

What happens to my guest list if I stop using it?

It stays in your Google Sheet, where it always was. You are not locked in, because we never took custody of the list in the first place.

How does this compare to other free tools?
